Accessible and located in the heart of Europe

Strategically located at the heart of North-West Europe and served by major international transport routes, the Charleroi Metropolitan Area is a magnet for investors and workers alike.

Situated at the heart of Europe, in direct proximity to Brussels, the Charleroi Metropolitan Area is served by the major European transport routes.

The motorway network provides rapid access to the Netherlands, France, England, Germany, Luxembourg and the countries of Eastern Europe.

There is also a dense public transport network, making it easy to get around on a daily basis. The rail network, for example, takes you to the centre of Brussels in just forty minutes.

The Charleroi-Châtelet multimodal hub also offers indisputable benefits. Its location at the heart of a road network, its rail and waterway links, not to mention its proximity to Brussels South Charleroi Airport, make this 40-hectare platform a high-performance support system for combined water-rail-road transport.

Finally, the Charleroi Metropolitan Area has its own, highly renowned air transport hub in Brussels South Charleroi Airport, the country’s 2nd largest airport (with almost 10 million passengers a year, serving almost 200 destinations).

The region is also working on a Mobility Plan. This is a forward-looking planning tool designed to organise accessibility to the places where people live and do business, for people and goods alike. This strategic study is in line with the options and objectives of sustainable development and was adopted by the Walloon government in May 2024.
