He combines metal, stone, and wood<\/h2>\n<p>This artisan, an erstwhile industrial turner-miller, has been creating furniture since 2016. He refuses to be pigeonholed as a carpenter, sculptor or even stonemason. He views his work as that of an artist, with his use of different materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really enjoy the interplay of different textures. I design furniture by combining wood, metal and marble,\u201d the young thirty-something tells us. \u201cThe work is quite complicated. He focuses on local and high-quality materials<\/h2>\n<p>Before embarking upon any project, J\u00e9r\u00e9my spends a lot of time and energy on selecting his materials. He has a preference for natural and local sources. The marble and wood come from nearby: he fosters close working relationships with his suppliers. The metal comes from a Belgian supplier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBelgium boasts some magnificent marble. Unfortunately, these sectors often suffer from under-investment. Extraction is costly. No attention to detail is spared when crafting his visual identity<\/h2>\n<p>Each and every item he creates is unique and is tailored to the client\u2019s requirements; J\u00e9r\u00e9my hand-stamps all of his pieces from La Fabrique Noire.\u00a0What all his furniture has in common is their simplicity and authenticity, and the colour black tends to dominate.<\/p>\n<p>For example, he works with burnt wood and black marble from Mazy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7594\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7594\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-7594\" src=\"https:\/\/www.charleroi-metropole.be\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Charleroi-metropole-jeremy-descamps-e1619595497877-1600x1069.jpg\" alt=\"table-de-salon\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1069\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7594\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This artisan can create a whole range of furniture, from coffee tables to wardrobes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A self-confessed perfectionist, J\u00e9r\u00e9my stamps his own identity on every little thing. He uses ancient techniques<\/h2>\n<p>All his creations are made by hand. After completing his training at IATA in Namur and Technifutur in Li\u00e8ge, he continued to hone his skills by working alongside fellow professionals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve learned so much from experienced craftspeople. There are many things that can only be learned through trial and error. I still regularly drop in on former masons and carpenters to fine-tune my techniques.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The artisan also enjoys rubbing shoulders with different trades. He gets a great deal out of these meetings, through discussions on very practical examples of projects he is working on.<\/p>\n<h2>5. He draws inspiration from what he sees around him<\/h2>\n<p>J\u00e9r\u00e9my gets his ideas from his immediate surroundings. Each creation is unique and is designed on the basis of that particular moment in time. He mainly draws inspiration from Nature and his own raw materials when he visits the sawmill or the quarry.<\/p>\n<p>He also finds inspiration in what other artists are working on, with varied means of artistic expression<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7595\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7595\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-7595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.charleroi-metropole.be\/app\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Charleroi-metropole-la-fabrique-noire-e1619595568527-1600x1065.jpg\" alt=\"cachet-de-l-artiste\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1065\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7595\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Each creation is certified by the creator and given a unique identifying number.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the future, J\u00e9r\u00e9my Descamps would like to become even more involved in the artistic world. He appreciates the total freedom that art gives him in terms of creativity.
